Solvent Distillation is the method which uses the principle of difference in the boiling point between the combined liquid. This method is used for separation of liquid organic compound. Distillation is used for separating the constituents of a liquid mixture which differ in their boiling points. Distillation can be used to separate the non volatile solute from the volatile solvent. For example sugar solution and the salt solution can be separated from each other by simple distillation.
The choice of which type of distillation to use depends upon
1. The purity that is needed in the recovered distillates
2. Whether two or more volatile components need to be separated from one another.
